This paper examines the cybersecurity challenges associated with obtaining end-of-life software from commercial file-hosting platforms. Focusing on MediaFire as a case study, we analyze the prevalence of malware, unsigned binaries, and version tampering in software labeled as “Windows 2000 compatible.” Recommendations for safe emulation and archival access are provided.
