“Always,” Archie replied.

She entered, shaking water from her hair, and locked eyes with Archie. For a moment, the diner held its breath.

Jughead’s pen stopped scratching. “Alice Cooper is in a facility two counties over. Medicated. Watched.”

A bell jingled. The rain swept in, and with it, a figure in a black trench coat, dripping onto the checkerboard floor. Betty Cooper shook out her blonde ponytail, her face pale, her smile tight. She slid into the booth next to Archie without asking. Riverdale

“Midnight,” Archie said. “The old barn. We finish this.”

Jughead finally looked up, his pale blue eyes sharp. “Maybe that’s all you are to her now. A memory of a simpler time before her father’s empire crumbled, before she had to rebuild it with her mother’s cold, manicured hands.”

“You’re doing it again,” Jughead said, not looking up. “The jaw clench. The thousand-yard stare. You’re composing a sad song about it, aren’t you?” “Always,” Archie replied

“The very same,” Betty said. “And here’s the detail the police report missed. The barn was sold six months ago to a shell company. A shell company that traces back to a certain Mr. Percival Pickens.”

The door opened. Veronica Lodge stepped out, heels splashing in puddles, her black dress immaculate, her diamond choker catching the light. She didn’t run. She walked, slow and deliberate, like a queen returning to a kingdom she never truly left.

A silence fell, heavier than the rain. Archie looked from Betty’s grim determination to Jughead’s calculating stare. Outside, a flash of lightning illuminated the parking lot—and a single, sleek black town car pulling in. Jughead’s pen stopped scratching

And outside, unseen through the rain-streaked window, a figure in a barn coat and muddy boots watched them. The figure smiled, turned, and disappeared into the dark woods where the secrets of Riverdale went to die—and sometimes, to be reborn.

“The old barn,” Archie said, his voice dropping to a whisper. “The one on the edge of Fox Forest? Where Jason Blossom’s body was found?”

The rain outside turned to sleet. The neon sign flickered. And in that moment, the four of them realized that Riverdale had not given them a new mystery. It had given them an old one, wrapped in a new skin, with sharper teeth.

Betty nodded. “And tonight, during the gala, he’s going to announce a ‘historical restoration project.’ My sources say the old barn is the centerpiece. If he digs there, he’ll find what’s still buried. What we buried.”
