The teacher corrects mistakes immediately. Then the student repeats the correct sentence. This happens many times. The method has four important stages. I will explain each stage with examples. Stage 1: Question and Answer In this stage, the teacher asks many questions. The questions are easy at first, then difficult. The student must answer in a full sentence.
Last week, I called an English hotel to change my booking. I was nervous. But I spoke clearly. The receptionist understood me. I understood her. I did not need to repeat. I felt amazing. Is the Callan Method Boring? Some people say, "But repeating the same question many times is boring!"
Example from my class: "Do you like coffee?" Me: "Yes, I like coffee." Teacher: "Do you like tea?" Me: "Yes, I like tea." Teacher: "Do you like coffee or tea more?" Me: "I like coffee more than tea." method callan
I decided to try it. Now, after six months, I can speak English. I can understand English people. In this post, I will explain how the Callan Method works, why it is effective, and how you can use it too. First question: What is the Callan Method? The Callan Method is a system for learning English quickly. It was invented by Mr. R. C. Callan in England. In this method, the teacher speaks fast. The students answer questions. The students do not write in a notebook. They listen, they speak, and they repeat.
Now I never forget "went." In the Callan Method, you do not write during the lesson. You only speak. Why? Because when you write, you think slowly. You translate in your head. But when you speak fast, you stop translating. You start thinking in English. The teacher corrects mistakes immediately
In a normal lesson, the teacher explains grammar for a long time. The students write. They think slowly. In the Callan Method, the teacher asks a question. The student must answer immediately. For example:
Cover the book. Only listen and speak.
Answering with one word. Wrong: "Coffee." Right: "Yes, I like coffee."
"Student, what are you doing now?" Me: "Now, I am sitting on a chair." Teacher: "Good. Repeat: Now, I am sitting on a chair." Me: "Now, I am sitting on a chair." Teacher: "Student, what were you doing five minutes ago?" Me: "Five minutes ago, I was listening to the teacher." Teacher: "Correct. Repeat: Five minutes ago, I was listening to the teacher." Me: "Five minutes ago, I was listening to the teacher." Teacher: "Student, what will you do after this lesson?" Me: "After this lesson, I will drink coffee." Teacher: "Good. Repeat: After this lesson, I will drink coffee." Me: "After this lesson, I will drink coffee." The method has four important stages
P.S. — The Callan Method is not the only method. But for speaking and listening, it is the best method I have found. If you want grammar explanations, use a textbook. If you want to speak, use Callan.
