The old PC inside the gutted fighting cabinet hummed louder, fans spinning up like a jet engine apologizing for being forgotten. But every Friday night, after his shift at the warehouse, he drove twenty minutes to the storage unit he rented, unlocked the rolling door, and stood in front of the machine he'd rescued from a bankrupt family fun center. The loader software was glitchy. Sometimes it crashed on boot. Sometimes the Force Feedback emulation made the steering wheel twitch at 3 AM like it was haunted.

Leo reached behind the coin slot — the microswitch was long gone, replaced by a simple keyboard encoder wired to the '5' key. He tapped it.
He pressed Start anyway.
