Ansys Maxwell Demagnetization Apr 2026

1. Introduction Demagnetization is a critical failure mode in permanent magnet (PM) machines (motors, generators, actuators). It occurs when external magnetic fields (e.g., armature reaction, high temperature, fault currents) force the operating point of a PM into the second quadrant of its hysteresis loop, below the "knee" of the intrinsic demagnetization curve ($H_c$, $B_r$).
