Let’s be honest: Windows 7 is officially extinct. Microsoft pulled the plug on security updates years ago, and most modern software vendors have followed suit. But if you’re like me, you might have a dedicated offline workstation in your garage or a legacy laptop that runs Windows 7 like a dream.

The short answer is —with a few important caveats. The Last Compatible Version If you try to download the latest KiCad 8 or 9 installer, you will hit a wall. The newest releases require Windows 10 or 11. However, the KiCad team provides excellent long-term support for older stable branches.
